With the explosive growth of YouTube around the globe, it has become a powerful medium for brands to bring original and engaging campaigns to life reaching global audiences, including right here in MENA. At Google we like to recognise and celebrate this creativity as well as share the success and best practices through the Youtube Ads Leaderboard. The Leaderboard is a list of the top 5 most popular video ads in the Middle East and North Africa each month.
The ranking is determined using some of YouTube’s strongest signals of viewer choice – the number of views within the country, whether viewers choose to skip or drop out (view rate), and the percentage of organic versus paid views.
In its inaugural month, we are seeing telecom players from Egypt, UAE and KSA take three of the top five spots on the leaderboard. The STC “afwan ra2ed” ad showcases the versatility of YouTube in creating longer format ads with compelling storytelling, while the Vodafone Magdy Abdel Ghani ad shows the power of celebrity and humor in driving viral views. The seasonal message by Du celebrating Eid Al Adha in their creative contributed to its strong performance during October.
