If you’ve been amongst the unfortunate few who’ve had to bear Cairo’s scorching heat on dry land instead of the breezy North Coast, then chances are you have undergone its equally vexing electricity cuts.
However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Tabea; a newly launched mobile application claims to predict electricity cuts based on the geographical region the user resides in. So let’s tell you a bit more about it and how you can put it to good use.
What’s the actual purpose behind the application?
Aside from facilitating information disclosure, Tabea’s real purpose resides far beyond simply informing people of daily power outages. The whole application was built to empower Egyptian citizens with real-time information regarding national public utilities. In the larger scheme of things, the application hopes to create a community of informed individuals who can seamlessly navigate public utility disruptions and updates.
Moreover, it would also help residents make better and more informed decisions during public utility updates and breaks.
Expect The Unexpected
The outage-tracker app’s forte lies in one thing: multi-location forecasts. In just a few clicks, the app shows you the expected power outage based on your area of residency and can be easily changed later on.
Now while you may have already seen the Egyptian Cabinet’s outage schedule, this app has just made it easier by gathering all these time slots into one seamless interface!
And based on their electricity outage update the application keeps users notified ahead of each outage with a personalized alert 10 to 15 minutes ahead of the outage.
Tabea is the first step in listing public utilities to keep Egyptians safe and informed during public utility breaks and it certainly is a right step towards bridging gaps between citizens and policy makers in Egypt.
Be sure to download the Tabea app on both iOS or Android and let us know what you think!
