Ericsson marked a strong presence at this year’s Cairo ICT event outlining its strategy to drive 5G in the industry via its experience from four generations of mobile networks and strong global and regional 5G engagements.
Ericsson demonstrated experimental Cloud-based solutions that will help in evolving the infrastructure of the networks. Visitors to Ericsson’s booth experienced several 5G related demonstrations including 5G Human IoT interactive arm, Smart Parking with narrow band IoT, Multi-device Wifi calling, and many other solutions that show how 5G can play an incredible role in evolving the Internet of Things (IoT).
“Our latest Mobility Report reveals that 5G subscriptions in region Middle East and North East Africa are expected to be around 20 million by the end of 2022. Now Egypt has launched 4G and we see this as a great opportunity for the country’s technological development. We are honored to participate in this year’s Cairo ICT to show the 5G technologies of tomorrow. Ericsson believes 5G networks are the foundation for realizing the full potential of a fully integrated connected society that we call the Networked Society,” said Helene Henrikson, Head of Ericsson Egypt.
Ericsson teamed up with several operators in the region for 5G development collaborations paving the way towards the 5G technology.
5G will present data rates up to 100 times faster, network latency lowered by a factor of five, mobile data volumes 1,000 times greater than today’s, and battery life of remote cellular devices stretched to 10 years or more. 5G will enable new capabilities, including “Precise Remote Control” with near-zero latency, enabling the quick reaction time required for operating machinery using haptic control, which allows the remote operator to “feel” what is going on in the machine’s environment. A doctor could, for instance, “feel” his patient’s body in a distant operating room to avoid slicing through a vein; a machine operator could work remotely with great precision.
This year Cairo ICT is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The event took place at the Cairo International Conference Centre from November 27th to November 30th, 2016 under the Patronage of H.E. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
