Employees everywhere struggle with a certain problem, which is being anxious to ask for a vacation. For some reason, asking for time off is scary to some employees; this happens because some managers or companies consider vacation as insignificant.

Since many employees’ vacation request was denied multiple times, they started to be afraid of rejection and they become anxious when they’re about to request a couple of days off.

If you’re a manager then you might want to read this article to know what goes on in you’re employees’ heads when they are about to ask you for a vacation; so, here are 7 reasons why employees are afraid to ask for a vacation.

1- The Boss Might Take The Wrong Impression

Some employees think that asking for a vacation can be held against them.

They actually think that their manager would think that they’re not dedicated or run away from the responsibility. This sometimes can be impossible to happen! In fact, every manager knows that their team members have to have a vacation at a certain point.

Not all managers think taking a vacation means you’re not dedicated.

2- “Business Needs”

When a manager says that it means the request is rejected.

This is one of the things that makes an employee anxious to ask for a vacation. As much as this excuse can be true and valid because you can’t take a vacation when there’s a lot of work, some managers use it just to reject the request.

So, since some employees have been through this situation where their request is rejected for no apparent reason, they tend to be anxious when they think about taking some days off.

3- A Pile of Work

Taking a couple of days off can lead to having a huge workload after.

Sometimes right after getting back from a vacation, an employee can find a huge pile of work waiting for them. So, they think that they’re going back to the stress right after relaxing.

What can be done to avoid this is to plan your tasks and work before you leave. Try scheduling your tasks and how you will be handling them after you get back from your vacation.

4- Working During Vacation

Some managers can still need their employees to participate in a task even during their time off!

In fact, managers and employees can suffer from this issue. Some managers spend their vacation taking phone calls about work, they either reply to clients or follow up with their team and work.

As for employees, their managers can contact them and ask them to participate in a certain task.

This can make employees and managers rethink taking some time off.

5- Missing Out Chances

Some employees worry that if they took a vacation, they could miss out on an important opportunity.

A lot can happen in your company while you’re away; for example, you can miss an opportunity of working on an important task that could add to your experience and portfolio. This is why some employees tend to worry about leaving work and take a vacation.

6- Work Might Fall Apart

Employees or managers share the same fear.

If you’re a manager or responsible for a team, then you will always think that work might fall apart while you’re away. Some employees and employers think that if they didn’t supervise by themselves, work will be a mess.

To avoid this, you can leave a team member who you trust in charge, and you can give them a number to contact you on for emergencies. You also need to have a good plan so work won’t fall apart without you.

7- Getting Fired

Even though it’s not possible, but some employees think about it.

Some employees tend to think that if they took a vacation, someone might replace them, especially if they performed well. It is unlikely to happen, especially if it didn’t happen to any of your colleagues. Companies can’t fire an employee because they asked for a vacation, because it is actually illegal and it’s your right to take some time off.
