1- Do I Want to Shift My Career or Do I Hate My Job?
Before making any decisions you have to ask yourself one question, do you really want to shift your career and major or do you hate your job?
Sometimes disliking a current job can lead to hating the entire career when you are just in the wrong place! Sometimes stress and work environment can lead to hate waking up every day to go to your job, but is it what you do or the mess you are having at your job? Before taking any steps, you have to think if you actually love what you are doing; what if you are doing it for another place, will you still be hating it or you will love doing it.
2- Starting at the Bottom
If you are changing your career then you have to be aware that you are starting all over! Everything you achieved, every position you reached, you will have to redo and you will have to work hard to reach the top once again. It is not an easy task, but if you love what you are about to do then it won’t be that much of a trouble.
3- Enhancing Your Skills
If your passion belongs to another career path, then you might want to upgrade your skills. You have to look for courses and trainings to be able to understand the job you want to do for the rest of your life. Most of the companies hire someone with at least a little experience to be able to keep up with the work flow. In order to do so, you have to learn and practice to be able to apply and get hired.
4- Can You Afford the Shift?
Since you will start from the bottom, you have to be able to afford all the required changes. If you will quit your current job then you have to consider your financial status and if you will have enough money to cover the needed courses or trainings to be able to apply to jobs.
You have to be aware that you won’t be getting the same salary you used to have, you will be getting less based on your experience, so you have to be in a place where you can be financially safe. This is why sometimes it is better not to quit your job before finding another proper one in the desired field.
5- Seek people with experience
Before changing your career, you might want to do a detailed research on your desired field to know every aspect and every possible position you will reach. You will have to look for any open vacancies and those who are willing to hire a junior or someone with no experience.
Also, it will do you a major help if you talked to those with experience in this field to help you understand what you are getting into. Also, you have to be aware of what you will be asked in the interviews to be able to have the right answer to every question.
It is never too late to change your career; if your passion is in a different direction then follow it and never let anything stop you, not even your age. You can always start all over.
