According to a short announcement, the Egyptian Taxation Authority asked the Egyptian content creators via YouTube to open tax files at their local taxation authority to record their income via the video streaming website.

It also demanded the bloggers and YouTubers whose profits have reached EGP 500,000 per year since they started their online activities to add the Value Added Tax “VAT” to their tax files.

The authority also demanded individuals and companies that use Social Media to sell their products to register at the authority’s offices and to provide the VAT in accordance with the law since the start of their activity.

According to the statement via official Facebook page, the Taxation Authority is in talks with Facebook and Google’s YouTube to subject the content created by celebrities, YouTubers and bloggers inside Egypt to income and value-added taxes.
