There’s no denying that Gen Z can make efficient employees, their enthusiasm, positivity, and mindset make them excellent learners, and their exposure to technology and social media gives them the ability to be excellent digital marketers.
Despite the great qualities of Gen Z, there are many employers who find it hard to work with them.
So, whether you’re an employer or an employee, have you ever wondered why sometimes it is hard to work with Genz and even get along with them?
Today we will tell you why.
1- They Lack Basic Skills
Many people of Gen Z don’t have the basic skills that other generations have.
Unfortunately, some Gen Z lacks basic skills like proper communication; unless they have proper work experience, they will need to work on the way they communicate and also teamwork.
Their lack of communication and their inability to work in a team can affect their performance and productivity, despite being a hard worker and doing a great effort.
2- Gen Z’s Culture is Way Too Different Than Millennials
This is one of the main reasons why both generations don’t get along.
A company’s culture is the main reason why an employee should accept the employment offer or not. As most of the employees in companies are millennials, it can be hard to get along with Gen Z as both generations have different cultures regarding work systems, tasks, values, expectations, and so on.
This is why we find some Gen Z employers quit their jobs because they feel that they can’t fit in.
3-They Are Easily Distracted
Since Genz has many current interests and is social media savvy, They can be easily distracted.
Most of this generation is too focused on social media and trending topics, this can be a huge factor in distracting them from their tasks. Also, as they try to fit in, as an employer you might find them wandering around a lot making small conversations and trying to form connections.
Some of them also tend to break the rules, which can cause problems.
4- Their Hunger For Success Can Have A Negative Affect
It is great to have ambition and do your best to succeed, but what’s not great is having this ambition affect your life and personality.
Gen Z grew up watching many people succeed, they know from a young age that they have to be independent, and successful, and they grew up knowing what people want and how to make their dreams come true. Unfortunately, this affects the way they work.
Wanting to succeed at any price, some refuse to help their colleagues, cause drama, and they might put themselves first and above anything or anyone, which can sometimes make them a little selfish.
This is not to generalize, some Gen Z knows how to balance and take the smart ways to achieve success, while others create an unhealthy work environment.
5- The Age Gap
Sometimes the age gap between Gen Z employees and Millennials makes it hard to work with them.
As we have mentioned earlier, Gen Z and Millennials have different cultures, different values, and different perspectives regarding work, salaries, and even working hours. The age gap can be a serious problem between the two generations as sometimes they don’t agree on the same idea, especially the inexperienced ones, some of them even refuse to seek a mentor to guide them throughout their career.
Even though Gen Z can be a very positive addition to the workplace and overall productivity, one of these previous factors can be the reason why an employer refuses to hire them.
