Black Mirror season 6 was released a week ago and it became a trending topic once it was out. Black Mirror is a very popular series that was first released in 2011, the series is known to scare people psychologically as it usually presents very strange and scary theories regarding technology and AI.Â
With the new season going viral, the series again made the audience anxious with the very first episode. We canât deny that Black Mirror teaches us lessons with each season and we have to admit, it somehow predicted the future in season 5.
Weâll tell you all about it and also how Netflix is attacking itself as a brand.Â

Do We Ever Read The Terms and Conditions?: Joan Is Awful
The first episode of Black Mirror, which is named Joan Is Awful can send shivers down your spine.
With the evolution of AI and technology, everything is possible, right? Thatâs one of the things Black Mirror is telling us in the first episode, but first, who reads the terms and conditions?
âJoan Is Awfulâ revolves around a streaming platform using the lives of its users to create a digital series using CGI, when the character decides to sue the platform, her lawyer says âYou permitted them to use your life by agreeing on the terms and conditionsâ
How many times we have agreed to the terms and conditions without reading it when we sign up for something? Probably countless times.Â
After watching this episode we canât help but wonder what we have agreed on before! What kind of data we have shared with websites and applications we signed up for? Can we consider this as predicting the future just like the series did before?

Black Mirror Somehow Predicted The Future
With every new technology emerging, people sometimes compared it to Black Mirror, for example, the AI Voice Generator.Â
In season 5 episode 3, when Ashley O -played by Miley Cyrus- went into a coma, they used AI to replicate her voice to produce songs; seems familiar?
In another episode, which is plot depended on social media addiction and how people are accepted in society depending on their âLikesâ, which is pretty much similar to what happens these days, especially with Gen Z.Â

Netflixâs Streamberry
During the first episode of season 6, the platform that airs âJoan Is Awfulâ is named Streamberry; Streamberry actually represented Netflix but Netflix took it to another level and actually launched the platform.Â
If you googled Streamberry, youâd find it on Netflixâs website, and guess what, Netflix is actually encouraging people to sign up and change their photos to look like Black Mirrorâs Joan Is Awful.Â
Netflix has changed its name on Twitter to Streamberry UK & Ireland and tweeted a link to the new tool writing: âJoin the Streamberry family today! #YouAreAwful.â
This is one of the ways that Netflix is promoting Black Mirror especially since there is another season to be released.Â
Â
So, will you be reading the terms and conditions from now on?Â
