Whether you’re a fresh graduate or an employee who is seeking a new job, you have to know that your resume is a huge factor in getting you through the first step. Creating a CV could look so easy but in fact, as easy as it looks, as tricky as it can be.

If you’re about to create a resume or you already have one, here are a few tips to enhance it and make it more appealing.

1- Create A Place For Your Online Platforms

Your portfolio and any social media platform that has your work need to be added to your resume.

Your resume must include your portfolio’s link and any social media platform that has your work, not your personal opinions and thoughts. Your resume must include everything so that your employer can have a preview of your experience and work samples with all its variety.

2- List Your Accomplishments

List your accomplishments under each job.

Your resume must include all your achievements and accomplishments you did in your previous jobs, don’t just list the job description, instead, if you managed to increase sales or increase the engagement rate, then put it under the job title.

Your employer has to have a closer look at what you have accomplished in the company.

3- Use The Right Keywords

Did you know that using keywords in your resume can attract more employers?

Many employers use an applicant tracking system, therefore, using keywords can help this system detect your resume, which will make it reach relevant hiring managers.

Read the job description carefully and any phrases or keywords matching your qualifications, you can add them to your resume, or you can google keywords for the industry you’re applying to.

4- Keep It Short And Direct

You don’t have to list every single job role.

If you worked in a company for a short period of time and didn’t accomplish anything or do many tasks, then you don’t have to include it. Also, you don’t have to add jobs that don’t match your career path, for example, if you worked in customer service and now you’re a graphic designer, you don’t have to include it on your resume. Keep your resume relevant to your field.

It is also recommended that the resume should consist of one page unless you have an extensive career or very high remarkable experience.

5- Use A Proper Template

Put in mind that the template is a big factor in grabbing the attention of the employer.

There are many websites that can provide you with very appealing templates to create your resume. Pick a proper one that represents you and organize it; the template is a huge factor in getting the employer interested to read it. Also, create a sectionized resume so that every achievement, work experience, or skill, has its own section.

6- Leave Some Space For An Additional Section

Your resume doesn’t revolve around your work experience only, it should include sections to let the employer know who you are.

As it was mentioned, you have to sectionize your resume, so, when you’re organizing it, dedicate a section to your skills and accomplishments. For example, if you have volunteered for something, or taken a course and have the certificate then you must add it.

7- Replace Objective With Summary

Don’t tell the employers about what you want from them, instead, tell them about your job history and achievements.

If you will write a summary about yourself in the resume, make it about your experience and achievements rather than what you want to learn from the company or the employers.

You have to put some effort into creating your resume and always update it as it will be the reason you will get an interview and the hiring decision will depend on your skills.
