As a manager or a business owner, you will always go through a situation where your best employee leaves. This situation always leaves managers confused and clueless, especially if they depended on this employee.

Even though managers always make sure that work isn’t affected by this, they still look for a candidate who’s similar to this employee and has similar skills.

If you’re going through a similar situation and your best employee wants to leave, there are some things that you can do that can lead you to find proper solutions.

So, here’s what to do if your best employee is resigning.

Arrange A Meeting

When any employee especially the best one wants to resign, you should have a one-on-one meeting with them.

There are many reasons that can drive an employee towards resignation; when you have this meeting try to find out what those reasons are. Try to find out if your employee is facing problems with the company, colleagues, has a new opportunity, or facing personal problems that don’t allow them to work properly.

Some of these problems have solutions that can make your employee stay. So, the next thing is thinking of a proper solution.

Try To Find A Solution

When you put your hand on the problem, your employee is facing, try to think of a solution.

Finding a solution depends on the type of problem your employee is facing. If your employee is leaving because they have another opportunity, you can present a new offer to them with a new salary increase.

There is a solution to every problem; for example, if they are leaving because of commute, you can allow a little flexibility by working from home on certain days.

Why Are They Your Best?

Think of the reasons why this employee is your best.

You have to be aware of the skills and qualifications that this employee owns; so, you can start listing those characteristics as a reference to whoever will apply to this vacancy. You can also check the rest of the team if any of them owns similar skills; you can start helping them to develop so they can fill their place.

Start Looking For Another Replacement

You can hire someone else or you can promote the next best employee.

If your employee is insisting on leaving then the next step for you to do is looking for another candidate. Since we previously mentioned that you should think about what makes this employee the best, those skills will help you with hiring the new candidate.

You will be aware of what type of employee you need and what type of skills they should own; this will make it easy to find someone with the same potentials as the last employee.

Inform Your Employees And Start Putting A New Strategy

Why having one best employee when you can have the best employees?

The first thing you should do is informing your employees personally. It is also recommended that before start looking for a candidate, you can check if any of your team members is ready to take your employee’s place.

You can also provide your team with training or courses so they can develop and earn the same skills as your best employee.

In this way, you can be sure that you won’t go through this situation in the future.

The most important thing is that you don’t let this situation affect the workflow.
