It is known that the holy month of Ramadan is the season of adverts. Almost all of the brands launch campaigns during this month; in fact, Ramadan is considered a race where all brands compete against each other trying to win the best Ramadan campaign.

Also, many people follow up with the adverts and talk about them on social media platforms to state their opinions.

As a brand owner, you have to know that you will find positive and negative opinions about your campaign, but what if the negative comments are way more than the positive ones?

Over the years, we have seen many Ramadan campaigns receive a huge backlash, even this Ramadan, many campaigns were attacked on social media.

This is why, today we will tell you what to do when your Ramadan campaign backfired.

Ask yourself “Why”

The first thing you need to do is figure out why people are angry with the campaign.

Find the roots of the backlash and figure out if you should fix it through an apology or a clarification.

Find out what the audience is complaining about and if it is affecting your sales or your social media existence and performance.

Once you know exactly why your audience is angry, you can start addressing the problem and find a solution.

Never Ignore… Respond

Ignoring the attack will lead to more negative comments and even a crisis.

Some brands tend to delete the comments, it’s not recommended that you do so as it will make the audience even angrier and make the whole situation worse.

What you need to do is communicate with your audience and understand the situation and start addressing everything in a good and professional manner. Be transparent and honest and avoid being defensive or aggressive.

Engage With Your Supporters

While dealing with negative comments, engage with your supporters.

Just like you found negative comments, you will find positive ones, you should engage with them. Appreciate their engagement and answer their questions. This will give you some balance and will restore your customers’ loyalty and boost your credibility.

Seek A Proper Solution

You can’t leave the problem unsolved, your audience needs action from you.

Call for an urgent meeting with your team and find a solution; as we have mentioned previously, you need to either clarify or apologize, with putting into consideration what the audience wants. When some brands’ adverts get attacked, they start listening to the audience and immediately take an action by editing the advert or taking it down.

For example, when the clothing brand Cottonil was under attack for inappropriate scenes, the brand edited the advert and removed the shots, and made the viewers angry

Lessons You Can Take From This Attack

As much as the backlash is a true crisis, it will open your eyes to how to create and plan your campaign right the next time.

You should take notes of what you did wrong to avoid them the next time. Search how you can do better and how to regain your customers’ satisfaction and loyalty. Before you approve any campaign’s concept or idea, put yourself in your viewers’ shoes and start evaluating from their perspective, this will enable you to know how they would react.

In the end, you need to get back on your feet again and survive to win over your customers once again.
