Five years ago Vodafone Egypt lost its sponsor’s deal with the legendary Al Ahly football team when Etisalat held a grand ceremony attended by Mr. Hassan Hamdy, Ahly Chairman, Mr. Saleh El Abdouli Etisalat CEO to announce Al Ahly new sponsorship deal with Etisalat, many of Al Ahly fans did not like the green logo look on Al Ahly jersey.

The ceremony was marked by the attendance of the first team football and the release of the new Ahly jersey which the team will use for the 2011-2012 season.

Back in 2011 Vodafone failed to win over Etisalat when Vodafone sponsorship proposal deal offered back then 130,000,000 LE about $21,666,666.7 to sponsor Al-Ahly, but money wasn’t enough to seal the deal. Etisalat Misr sealed the deal and declared it victory after 2 weeks of Vodafone Egypt public relation employees bragging claiming signing with Al Ahly.
