We bid farewell this year with many memories, pictures, places, and, most importantly, a new music library. At the end of each year, social media goes crazy at the sight of a particular sentence: Your Year in Music. It has been a trending topic for quite some time now for people to share their recap on the year in music, whether it’s impressive, a bit weird, or a mix of both.

Music Recaps: A Fresh Look into Users’ Behavior

The idea of music year recaps delivered by music platforms like Anghami is more than just fun. It plays a crucial role in how listeners engage with and reflect on their musical journeys. For platforms, offering a music recap is valuable for deepening user engagement and getting a glimpse of user behavior that allows them to build strategies with these insights. In addition, it fosters a sense of connection between the listener and the platform by highlighting personalized listening patterns, favorite artists, and top tracks.

Total Minutes Streamed

The total minutes streamed on Anghami reached 23,039,418,965 streamed minutes. Let me translate this number in words: Over twenty-three billion minutes! An electrifying number, am I right? This number is divided into 16 billion streamed minutes of Arabic content and over 6 billion streamed minutes of international content.

Top Songs

When it comes to the top songs, we have two winners. The first one, the top Arabic song, is “Makanak” by Amr Diab. The second one, the top international song, is “Move” by Adam Port, Stryv, Keinemusik, Orso & Malachiii.

Each country also had a favorite song. While Egypt, Bahrain, and Oman couldn’t get enough of “Makanak” by Amr Diab, Saudi Arabia was somewhere deep in their feelings with the top song being “Haygeley Mwgoaa” by Tamer Ashour.

Top Artists

The top artist spot was secured by Amr Diab, as he was the first artist to hit 616M streams in a single year. The top international artists were a tie between Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and The Weeknd.

Viral Hits and Artists

2024 was definitely the year of viral tracks and new emerging artists. According to Anghami, the top three viral hits were

  • Move by Adam Port, Stryv, Keinemusik, Orso & Malachiii
  • Ganeni by Elyanna
  • Metel el Ghaymi (cover) by Marilyne Naaman & Jad Obeid

The top three emerging artists were

  • Tul8te
  • Sabrina Carpenter
  • Marilyne Naaman

Top Genres

This year in music was all about exploration and experimenting with new things. And this is clearly shown in the top genres on Anghami in 2024. The first place goes to Afro House with 28.8M streams. The second place goes to Egyptian Chaabiat with 170M streams. And finally, the third place goes to Levantine Pop with 92M streams.

Top Podcasts

Podcasts were all around in 2024; it is a 99% chance that you have explored a podcast or two. Anghami proves this theory with numbers, as the total minutes streamed of Arabic podcasts was 1.5 billion minutes and 44 million minutes of international podcasts. Egypt was the top country with the highest streams.

The top podcasts of 2024 were:

  • Ma3 Kamel A7terami
  • Kefaya Ba2a
  • Al Daheeh

Wrapping It Up

Throughout the year, Anghami has provided valuable insights into the evolving trends, genres, and artist discoveries that have defined the musical landscape.

From highlighting rising stars to reflecting the diverse tastes of global audiences, they have continued to push boundaries and offer unparalleled access to the music we love.

As we move forward, people’s insightful music experiences act as a window to a dynamic music landscape. And we expect that 2025 will bring even more inspiration.

Here’s to celebrating music’s ever-evolving journey with Anghami.
