The ads were everywhere: Short videos about Egyptians with lower income using a smartphone like it was a necessity not a luxury, and talking about tech and internet-related issues like it was the norm. Tecno Mobile entered the Egyptian market last month, offering a cheap smartphone, targeting the majority of the population.

With a total number of 220,021 fans, the Tecno Mobile Egypt Facebook fan page enjoys an engagement rate of over 10%, after it had increased by exactly by 6991% in July 2014, according to Socialbakers. Additionally, its fan base increased by 231.88%, between July 16th and August 15th.

One of the factors that contributed to their growth was the change in language. Up until the 7th of July, the page’s posts were mainly in English, thus not talking to the audience they were targeting. After that, admins uploaded Arabic or bilingual posts, assuring to reach the people they had intended to sell their product to. However, this does not mean that this was the only reason for a boost in fan growth and engagement.
