Orascom Development has been a pioneer in creating destinations with inspiring communities where people are inspired to live, work, and play with passion and purpose. It is constantly seeking to deliver “life as it should be.”

We all know that being a part of a community is something integral in today’s world and we are constantly searching for a community that fits our specific needs but this raises an important question. What is the meaning of community in the modern world?!

 

Uncovering The True Meaning Of A Community

Orascom Development’s latest research delves into the essence of community living. To redefine community, Orascom started by exploring public perceptions and actively engaging with community residents, industry leaders, subject matter experts, and prospective homeowners, along with global research and data analytics firm, YouGov. More than 3,600 people were surveyed across the MENA region (including Egypt), Europe, and the US with questions like, What is important about community today? What role do well-being and sustainability need to play? And many more. By listening to their needs, desires, and dreams, Orascom Development gained valuable insights and inspiration. Based on Orascom’s research, 83% of people define community as a place where they feel a sense of belonging to something bigger and have a shared purpose.

 

Interesting Key Insights from Orascom Development’s Keys of Life

In today’s uncertain world, shared experiences and connections shape modern communities. People are adapting to changing circumstances differently, they are constantly wondering about the economy’s impact on their lives, the cost of living, healthcare, & wellness. Most people define home as the place to find comfort and support. Across all ages, ‘Wellness-focused living’ is the preferred way of living.

Orascom’s 2024 development, Keys to Life, Redefining Community, explores diverse perspectives on the meaning of community in the modern world. Here are some interesting insights to check:

  • People constantly look for connection and for 80% of people, this means a strong sense of community.
  • 82% of people agree that community is ‘purpose and a sense of belonging’
  • 76% of people feel best in “a place where they can live, play and work.”

 

Uncovering The Gaps: To Deliver Life As It Should Be

People are searching for communities to feel a sense of belonging, and the new research conducted by Orascom development shows that communities need a sense of purpose. 43% of people feel that they do not live in their ideal location, and this number rises to 58% among young people. These insights directly highlight the need for societies that meet the evolving needs and aspirations of the population.

When evaluating gaps in people’s expectations and reality about community, research found gaps in health and wellbeing, privacy and security, and a gap in the sense of comfort and connection that communities are expected to provide.

 

Health Leads the Way: Prioritizing Wellness in Community Living

The Keys to Life findings uncovered the value people give to health and well-being in community settings. Individuals prioritize health-conscious choices, exercise, and mindfulness practices in communities. In addition to having access to exercise facilities as they age, most community residents consider the area in which they live as a potential source of physical and mental well-being.

Based on the Orascom Development Keys of Life:

  • For 78% of respondents, wellness-focused living is the most appealing way to live
  • 84% of people would like green spaces or parks nearby when they grow older to enjoy outdoor activities
  • 87% state that proximity to beaches, lakes or other water elements improves their state of mind.
  • 75% of people value healthy eating habits as they age, with easy access to farm-to-table produce.

 

Sharing is Caring: Shared Experiences Emerge as A Key Priority

Strong communities serve as the foundation of modern life. People are always looking for ways to develop meaningful relationships and create memories. According to Orascom Development’s Keys of Life research, about 76% of people view community as being about shared experiences and common activities and hobbies.

A Shared Vision For Thriving Communities

The CEO of Orascom Development Group, Mr. Omar El Hamamsy, mentioned that the Keys of life initiative opens a global dialogue to redefine community living and offer a new perspective on the future of inclusive and sustainable communities.

By exploring diverse perspectives about the meaning of community in the modern world and by discovering the current gaps and connecting the dots with extensive research, Orascom Development is able to redefine communities, closing the market gap by covering people’s needs.
