Not many know, especially if they are not BMW enthusiasts, but the abbreviation stands for Bayerische Motorenwenke. The company was established exactly one century ago. March 7, 1916 is the date that went down in the history of BMW, marking the birth of the now world-famous brand, that, together with other luxury car makers, is going a long way to build Germany’s reputation in the world’s automotive industry.
30 years after Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler sent the first automobiles on the road, their new rivals saw the light of day.
“We warmly congratulate the globally renowned company BMW on its anniversary and invite all employees of BMW AG to discover the complete history of the automobile at the Mercedes-Benz Museum,” says Ralf Glaser, Head of Press and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Classic.
They will have the chance to experience the history of the automobile at its best, from its very beginnings and all the way to the futuristic concepts and innovative developments.
The first 50 employees from the rival company to make it to the Mercedes-Benz Museum, will be treated with a special invitation: shortly after they tour the exhibition, they are invited to join a Swabian specialty: a desert looking like the kidney shaped signature BMW radiator grille.
