Meet TUT: Egypt reveals 2019 AFCON Mascot

King Tut, the footballer Pharaoh, has been unveiled to be the official Mascot for 2019 AFCON, which will take place from 21 June to 19 July in Egypt.

The Organizing Committee of the 2019 African Cup of Nations revealed the AFCON 2019 Mascot; The child “Tut” followed by the Pharaoh King Tutankhamun.

Mohamed Fadl, the director of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations revealed the official tournament mascot, which represents a pharaoh child wearing an Egyptian shirt and a pharaonic outfit, his foot on the official championship’s ball.

The tournament’s official Facebook account published a video of the new mascot under the comment: “After a long journey. It has finally arrived. Welcome with us our special host in the 2019 Africa Cup #Egypt_2019”.

Fans can either pay for their selected tickets via online payment with immediate printing options or pick them up from outlets distributed nationwide.

The AFCON starts on June 21 and ends on July 19. The tournament takes place with the participation of 24 teams in six groups for the first time in the history of the African competition.

Egypt came in Group A with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Zimbabwe in the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

Tutankhamun Inspiration:

TUT refers to Tutankhamun who was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, during the period of Egyptian history known as the New Kingdom or sometimes the New Empire Period. He has, since the discovery of his intact tomb, been referred to colloquially as King Tut.
