Mark Zuckerberg and co-founders Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Eduardo Saverin launched Facebook from a Harvard dorm room in 2004. At the beginning, users could only join “the facebook” if they were at Harvard university, but that wasn’t the case for long. Just one year after it was founded, Facebook had dropped its “the” and had 6 million users.

In fact, Facebook also released updated stats on information shared by Facebook users today:

  • 15 million users update their statuses at least once each day
  • 850 million photos are uploaded to the site each month
  • 24 million pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photos, etc.) are shared each month
  • 3.5 million users become fans of Pages each day
  • The average user has 120 Facebook friends

If we were actually friends with Facebook, on Tuesday we would receive an event reminder that the world’s most ubiquitous social network is turning 10, and we should post a message on its profile wall.

To celebrate, Zuckerberg & Co. have decided to send each and every one of us a personalised video of our time on the social network.
