The much awaited global hybrid electric car challenge that was hosted in Egypt, for the first time ever, this year, commenced on Saturday by crowning the winners. The challenge which took place from the 10th to the 12th of March at SomaBay, saw 150 students from engineering colleges across 10 different universities, successfully participate in the event.
The event came as part of a partnership with the international NGO, Global EEE and Somabay, saw a number of different universities recognized for various achievements.
Following the first day of the challenge,Somabay recongized Banha University team as first prize winners, with Ain Shams University following as a close second and the Canadian International College taking third place. The result of the second day of the competition saw South Valley University take out first place, with Ain Shams and Banha University taking out second and third places, respectively. On the final day, the Ain Shams University student’s team won first place, the students of the University of South Valley team won second place and the Banha University team won third place. In other specialized categories, Helwan University team won the award for Best Picture and Best Technology, Zewail City University won the Best Video Award, whilst Ain Shams University team won the Best Cooperation Award.

Main sponsor, BMW Egypt, also sponsored the first place winning team, financing their trip to Abu Dhabi, where they will participate in the global competition. The Governor of Red Sea, HE Ahmed Abdullah also lent his support to challenge winners; promising to sponsor the two winning teams, with the Global EEE Global International Foundation – the organization of the competition – confirmed to provide support and care during the month of April. Talking about the completion of competition Dr. Khaled Mostafa, Director of Egypt’s Operations, Global EEE said “We are extremely pleased to have been able to successfully bring this challenge to Egypt and we look forward to seeing the Egyptian teams in Abu Dhabi during the international competition.”
Adding to Mr. Mostafa’s comments, Eng. Ibrahim El Missiri, Somabay’s CEO, said “We are constantly looking to support the development of youth and inspire initiatives that support protection of the environment and innovation in the country. The Challenge was extremely successful and we would like to personally congratulate all of the winners of the challenge.”
The Global Education, Environment and Engineering Foundation; Global EEE; has been organizing this competition in various countries around the world for 30 years and was established by a group of experienced and qualified experts in the fields of technology, marketing, education, and car racing.
The village and resort SomaBay is a subsidiary of the Abu Soma Development located on the peninsula of Hurghada. The resort offers a selection of five star luxury hotels, a spa and sports outlets, as well as residential units near the harbor.
