Throughout recent years, Egypt has emerged as one of the Middle East and Africa’s most promising startup bases. This is one hub that has a government that not only encourages people to always share their ideas but also provides major funding that helps them bring these ideas to life. In 2025, the Egyptian momentum of keeping up with the innovations shows no signs of slowing. As a matter of fact, things are getting even more interesting and innovative.
That is because the Egyptian government is placing entrepreneurship at the heart of its national economic strategy. This is a government that is introducing bold initiatives that help empower startups and foster a new generation of innovators. One of the main events that proved this to be true was the 2025 RiseUp Grand Summit that was held at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). Let’s uncover what was discussed from the governmental perspective of supporting startups and empowering them.
Innovation Is the New Infrastructure
We all know that every government has focused greatly on traditional infrastructures. However, the Egyptian government is focusing now on building something that is arguably more powerful. They are working on the creation of a digital and entrepreneurial foundation for the future. The government is investing heavily in tech skills, innovative hubs, and flexibility that is, safe to say, regulatory. Egypt, in all its glory, is creating an environment where entrepreneurs get to experience the real meaning of scaling and not just having a space where they survive. For example, there was this moment at the RiseUp Summit when Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), dropped an announcement that thrilled hundreds: Egypt is opening its free zones to export-focused service startups for the first time.
These zones are offering full customs and tax exemptions. Basically, they are a lifeline for startups in software exports and AI. With 9,000 square meters allocated for headquarters, it feels like the government is rolling out a red carpet for tech innovators.
Additionally, there are initiatives that are being initiated by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). Ones that have got the national training budget skyrocketing. In just a few years there have been over 400,000 Egyptians that are trained in areas such as programming, digital marketing, and AI. This ensures that startups have access to the needed local talent and skilled manpower.
Bridging Dreams and Reality
However, Heiba wasn’t the only one who stressed governmental support for startups or gave out some thrilling announcements. Abdelhameed Sharara, RiseUp’s founder and CEO, has also highlighted how the event plays a role in uniting 350 startups. With over 200 global investors, things got even more interesting. Events like RiseUp are home for innovation and sparking new ideas that take Egypt to a whole new futuristic leap towards innovation. It is an example of empowering even small businesses. For example, the summit had a creative marketplace that showcased local brands in fashion and design.
The existence of it proved that Egypt has a certain commitment to a diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem and environment. Another great governmental support is how a job fair and career coaching space, powered by Wuzzuf, connected young professionals with opportunities. Allowing such partnership between Wuzzuf and RiseUp is something that proves how Egypt is looking towards leveraging the young and most skilled minds of its youth who ambitiously wish to prove themselves. These efforts align with the 2025 vision of inclusivity that the Egyptian government is aiming to reach and fulfill. This is a goal that simply ensures that no talent is left behind.
A Better Future That Redefines Collaboration
Egypt is simply a land with so much to offer and give to its people. That is why it is important that the government is focusing on those who have something to add to the country’s value and make a difference for Egypt’s tomorrow.
When they focus on funding and investing in potential startups, the country not only shapes the futuristic generation into an independent one. However, they also connect its people globally with the right opportunities. Ones that will allow them to further succeed and make a global noise. With government policies breaking barriers and platforms like RiseUp fostering global connections, Egypt is no longer just the land of pharaohs; it’s a base that will launch the next generation of innovators.
