ETA UK & Ireland director Omayma El Husseini: We are thrilled to launch our first social media platform and hope it will encourage returning UK holidaymakers, and new holidaymakers to visit Egypt.

Facebook page launched by the Egyptian Tourist Authority will be used to provide UK travellers with safety updates as well as the latest travel information and tips for planning holidays.

The ETA said it wanted to offer fans of Egypt the opportunity to discover “the real Egypt” and its page LoveEgyptUK will include information on rural attractions, city retreats, local arts, crafts and festivals as well as showcasing its beach resorts, spas and golf courses.

“In doing so, it will allow the LoveEgyptUK fans to share their experiences, giving other fans insights into the delights Egypt has to offer.

“By investing in our online presence, we will be able to reach out to British travellers in a modern and open way. Transparency is very important to us, and we want to ensure that we use Facebook as a means of communicating with fans about travel safety, reminding travellers that, with the current exception of Cairo and Northern Sinai, Egypt is a safe holiday destination.”
