Brazil against Germany is the most tweeted sporting event ever

Last night’s 7-1 thrashing defeat of host nation Brazil in the hands of Joachim Loew’s Germany in a football World Cup Semifinal game was the most tweeted single sports game ever on Twitter with a whopping 35.6 Million tweets during the match according to Twitter Data, twitter’s official source for stats. The game #BRAvsGER which will now also be known for the social media records it set, easily emulated the previous record held for the most tweeted sporting event by #BRAvsCHI with 16.4 Million tweets during the game.

@TwitterData also provided some more interesting stats on Brazil’s humiliating 7-1 defeat. Here are the most mentioned players of the match on twitter. Julio Caesar the Brazilian goal keeper who conceded 5 goals in just the first 30 minutes of the game was the mentioned Brazilian player and Miroslav Klose, the man who put himself ahead of Brazil’s former great Ronaldo to become the overall top scorer in the FIFA World Cup with 16 goals was the most mentioned German player.

Sami Khedira, the German Mid-fielder did set a new Tweets Per Minute (tpm) record with a whopping 580,166 tweets/min when he scored his country’s 5th goal of the match in 29th minute of the game yesterday.

Twitter has been the go to social network for people during the global events and it has once again proved why its the most preferred social media site for real-time event discussions on the web.
