Have you ever wondered what would happen if something that sounded too good to be true actually turned out to be real – especially on April 1? One brand actually seems to have done April Fools’ Day very well this year.
BMW New Zealand says it put an advert emblazoned with the words “April Fools’ Special” in a newspaper informing the public that the first person to come down to a dealership and “ask for Tom” would receive a free BMW.
The advert “definitely appeared too good to be true”, says BMW spokesman Ed Finn. “We wanted to turn the tables and reward the first person who was willing to take the chance.” Ms Marsh’s old car will be sold off to raise funds for a charity which helps disabled children, he tells the paper. The video up top of the whole event, uploaded to the company’s YouTube channel, ends with the message: “Happy April Not Such a Fool”.
