A long time ago, we as digital marketers have been seeing how global brands are dealing with the trends and how fast they reacted to these day to day trends that are concerning people, we’ve been watching closely and analyzing their approach in such occasions like Oreo super bowl famous’ tweet, snickers and Swarez, smartphones and #bendgate.
Today I’m glad to see that we have evolved to reach a similar approach in Egypt, it started on a hot summer day when rumors took place everywhere that the temperature may reach 50 something on that day, people started to get ready by freezing water, avoiding the streets and staying as cool as possible while other people were getting ready for trendjacking the normal trend of friends posting the temperature from their mobiles or car dashboard when it reached 44 degrees.
Digital Marketers and brand managers have quickly planned and executed these posts about that temperature thing, some brands were lucky enough because their products or services can be easily associated with such an event, other brands knew how to talk about it with a creative and relevant content that people can relate to themselves while other brands chose to stay silent either for not finding this trend tempting to talk about or they missed planning it and were not fast enough.
Around 6 or 7 brands have talked about the trend like Coca Cola, Vodafone, Mobinil & Nestle while this time some new trendjackers have capitalized the trend and talked about it like Vatika styling gel, Manlook and Tiger which shows how other brands started to understand the social media marketing and have the guts, speed and trust in their agencies to go out of the traditional techniques.
If we have to look for some take outs in here, they’re simply 3 words:
1- Trust between the agency and the client.
2- Speed to market.
3- Relevant content.
Good job for those who managed to be fast enough to do it and to understand that our market is a real potential and it’s a market that has hunger for innovation. All it needs is some guts, speed and trust to own it.
