Audi: It’s called “The Commander”, and cost about $10 million, according to I4U News. IMO, it was worth it.
After taking a year off from the Super Bowl game, Audi created a brilliant 60-second commercial for Super Bowl 50. Called “The Commander,” the ad tells the story of a former astronaut who has lost his will to live. That is, until he tries the Audi R8 and is transported back to the best moments of his life. Best of all, we hear David Bowie’s “Starman” in the background.
Letting the ol’ astronaut take the controls one last time: Touching. Comparing driving an Audi to commanding a moon shot: overreaching. Using the late David Bowie’s song “Starman” to tie it all together: heartbreaking. We’re grading this one on a curve.
The 2017 R8 is the fastest and most powerful Audi ever made, the brand says, with a top speed of 205 mph and a zero-to-60 acceleration of 3.2 seconds. That’s not quite rocket speed, but it gives the spot its aspirational hook, expressed as a space theme.
This is Audi’s eighth Super Bowl ad, and the second to feature the R8.
