The holy month of Ramadan is almost 10 days away and as always, brands and TV shows are getting ready to launch their Ramadan campaigns. Brands are known to lunch their campaigns during Ramadan or a day before it starts, as for TV shows, they’re known to launch their teaser campaigns days before the month starts.
Among all of these Ramadan TV shows, a specific one was successfully promoted and created a huge buzz all over social media platforms; it has succeeded to grab the viewers’ attention and many people stated that they put it on their list of “What to watch in Ramadan”.
You probably guessed it right, it is Wala’na by Ahmed Mekky.
“Wala’na” Is More Than Just A Song, It Is A Teaser Campaign
Ahmed Mekky has exceeded all of his fans’ expectations, as they all guessed he would be promoting his Ramadan series by releasing a teaser or snippets from scenes of the series but what he did was more than just snippets.
On the second of March, Mekky released a rap song under the name of “Wala’na” to promote the upcoming 7th season of his Ramadan series “El-Kebeer Awi”. The song is more than just a teaser campaign, it has many details that can’t be ignored, all the way from Mekky’s rapping skills to the song’s message and the VFX used in the video.
Mekky also showed that he’s still collaborating with the same cast as last season as they appeared with him in the music video.
Choosing The Right Message To Deliver
As all of the series events happen in upper Egypt, Mekky chose the perfect message to deliver through his song, which is supporting local brands/products.
This can be seen over the course of the song as he replaces and compares international brands and Egyptian ones, for example, he replaces the Starbucks logo with his “El-Kebeer Awi” logo and also, states the late actor Saeed Salih’s sense of humor is better than Jim Carry’s.
This message is what every marketer tries to deliver as we always see many of them promote local brands.
We can also notice that Ahmed Mekky followed the “fast rapping” style just like international rappers, which makes him the only one in Egypt who has tried this style.
Let’s Talk About VFX and Editing
Overall, VFX and editing can be used to create a visually stunning and emotionally impactful work. The key is to use them in a way that enhances the music and tells a story. The VFX used in “Wala’na” is a huge factor that led this campaign to great success.
There were two themes of two popular games used in the music video, “Fortnite” and “Mortal Kombat”. The editors and VFX artists have done a great job as they made some scenes of the music video look exactly like the game but with the flavor of “El-Kebeer Awi”.
Millions of Views In A Few Hours
In a few hours, the video had already gained millions of views. After 10 days after releasing the song, it reached over 8 million views on YouTube. As for Facebook, Mekky has only put snippets from the song and they reached almost 6 million views combined.
It is fair to say that the effort done on this song is huge and it deserved the positive reaction it received from the audience. We can honestly say that as a campaign, the song achieved all of its goals.
