- OLX users in Egypt posted more than 260 thousand secondhand items this summer

OLX the leading free online classified platform in Middle East and North Africa, has revealed its summer trends and insights on the secondhand economy in Egypt with an impressive combined value of more than 497 million Egyptian pounds for the items listed between July and September 2015. The insights also showed that air conditioner and beach buggy were the most searched items by the Egyptians this summer on OLX.
Commenting on the findings, Abdallah Touqan, Senior Public Relations and Communications Lead at OLX said: “OLX is the fast and easy way for Egyptians to sell and buy secondhand items. It is free and with no commission and helps society members to get extra cash by selling items they no longer using them. Whether using the ‘OLX Arabia’ native app or on the web using a mobile phone or any other device, the process is only a ‘click and post’ away,”
The top 5 listed categories for the summer were mobile phones with over 104,200 mobile for sale and a combined value of 198,343 Egyptian Pound; Followed by Computers and tablets with over 58,774 items and a combined value of 111,317 million Egyptian Pound. Egyptians listed over than 41,037 Home and garden items with a combined value of 129,579 million Egyptian Pound; and listed as well over 30,465 electronics and home appliances items with a combined value of more than 28,132 million Egyptian Pound. Clothing and accessories came on the fifth place of the most listed items this summer with over 26,381 ad and combined value of 12,220 million Egyptian Pounds.
“Collating the facts and figures for the summer season in Egypt proved to be an eye opener to the huge potential the secondhand market in Egypt. The combined value of secondhand items listed by Egyptians in 3 months is massive and this is an indication of the importance to look around us and start reevaluating everything we own at home and looking at the possibility to turn them to cash! The minute start changing the culture of ownership in Egypt the more items are redistributed within the Egyptian community and therefore will contribute positively to the local economy.” Touqan concluded.

- iPhone 5 with more than 23,581 search inquiries
- Kitchen with more than 17,136 search inquiries
- iPhone 6s with more than 14,555 search inquiries
- living room with more than 12,610 search inquiries
- Office with more than 12,054 search inquiries
- Refrigerator with more than 11,971 search inquiries
- Bedroom with more than 10,654 search inquiries
- Sony Z1 with more than 10,096 search inquiries
